GENERAL NOTES TO SPECIFIER:

THE FOLLOWING PRODUCT SPECIFICATION LANGUAGE IS INTENDED TO ASSIST DESIGN PROFESSIONALS IN specifying plyboo sport(TM)   bamboo sports floor surfaces in EXISTING 3-part specifications for   proprietary or non-proprietary sports floor systems.

THIS PRODUCT SPECIFICATION SPECIFIES THE BAMBOO STRIP GYMNASIUM FLOOR SYSTEM CONSISTING IN GENERAL OF WOOD SUBFLOORING, BAMBOO FLOORING, RUBBER MOUNTS, VAPOR BARRIER, AND RELATED SURFACE FINISHING. THE CONICAL SUBFLOORING REFERENCE IS LOCATED IN pART 2:   MATERIALS, AND PART 3, INSTALLATION.

SAMPLE LANGUAGE IS PROVIDED FOR APPLICABLE ARTICLES IN PART 1-GENERAL, PART 2-PRODUCTS and part 3-execution FOLLOWING THE CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATION INSTITUTE'S SECTIONFORMAT 4.0 .    BECAUSE OF THE VARIATION IN SPECIFICATION SYSTEMS CURRENTLY IN USE, ARTICLE AND PARAGRAPH numbers and TITLES MAY DIFFER SOMEWHAT THAN PRESENTED HEREIN. THE SAMPLE LANGUAGE SHOULD BE EDITED ACCORDINGLY TO FIT EACH FIRM'S SPECIFICATIONS.

1.          Credit MR 6, Rapidly Renewable Materials: Bamboo flooring manufacturer's product data for each product used, indicating that product(s) are manufactured from a rapidly renewable resource.         

2.          Credit EQ 4.1, Low-Emitting Materials: Bamboo flooring manufacturer's product data for each product used.

1.04             QUALITY ASSURANCE

•  Qualifications:

INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING MANUFACTURER'S QUALIFICATION:

1.           Bamboo Flooring Manufacturer's Qualifications: Minimum ten years producing bamboo flooring and minimum one year producing bamboo sports floors.

2.           Installer Qualifications:   Minimum 7 years experience.

INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING PRE-INSTALLATION MEETING REQUIREMENTS:

•  Pre-Installation Meeting:

1.           Convene meeting at project site within one week of scheduled start of installation with representatives of the following in attendance: Owner, Architect, General Contractor, Sub-Contractor.

2.           Review substrate conditions, requirements of related work, installation instructions, storage and handling procedures, and protection measures.

3.           Keep minutes of meeting including responsibilities of various parties and deviations from specifications and installation instructions.

1.05             DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

INCLUDE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS IN THE "DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING " ARTICLE:

•  Deliver bamboo flooring to Project site in original, unopened cartons.

•  Comply with MFMA Handling and Storage guidelines.

1.06             PROJECT/SITE CONDITIONS

A.     Environmental Requirements: Comply with MFMA guidelines.

1.07             WARRANTY

INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING SPECIAL WARRANTY:

A.     Special Warranty for bamboo flooring: Include 25 years minimum against defects in manufacturing, lamination, and milling.

PART 2-PRODUCTS

2.01             MATERIALS

PART 3-EXECUTION

MODIFY THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE AS APPROPRIATE:

3.01             INSPECTION

A.             Inspect concrete slab for tolerance and dryness, and report any discrepancies to the general contractor.

B.             The concrete slab will be free of all debris.

3.02             INSTALLATION

A.             Cover concrete slab with 6 mil. polyethylene, lapping joints a minimum of 6-inches.

B.             Install first layer of sub-floor plywood in the opposite direction of the bamboo flooring, ¼-inch spacing at all edges and breaking joints every at 4-feet.   Allow 2-inch expansion voids at perimeter, and all vertical obstructions.   The underside of the first layer shall have 32 conical cushion pads per sheet attached 12-inch on center with ¼-inch spacing between adjoining sheets.

C.             Install the second layer of sub-floor material diagonally at a 45 degree angle over the first layer, allowing ¼-inch spacing on all edges and breaking joints every 4-feet.   Attach second layer of sub-floor material with nails or staples 12-inches on center.

D.             Install bamboo flooring parallel with main playing court by nailing or stapling approximately 12-inches on center. Allow space joints between flooring strips for intermediate expansion in accordance with local humidity conditions.   Provide 2-inch expansion voids at the perimeter and at all vertical obstructions.

3.03             FLOOR SANDING

            A.             Machine sand for a smooth, even and uniform surface.

B.             Remove sanding dust by tack or vacuum.

C.             Refer to manufacturer sanding and finishing procedures.

3.04             FINISHING

            A.             Inspect floor to ensure the surface is acceptable for finishing and clean.

            B.             Apply seal coats per manufacturer's instructions.

            C.             Paint game lines as shown on drawing, between seal and first coat of finish.

            D.             Game line paint will be compatible with finish.

3.05             BASE INSTALLATION

A.             Install vent cove base to walls with base cement, screws or anchors. Miter all joints at 45 degree angles.
